This story begins as two doctors leave on vacation
with their two children. Their plan is to spend their vacation sailing
in the Caribbean, just the four of them and a young captain. But things
do not go exactly as planned. The compass starts spinning, and in an unexpected
eclipse they drift into a fog bank, hit an ice berg, and wake up on a small
island with an active volcano and no recognizable constellations in the
sky. There are two groups of people already on the island. One is an English
speaking group which is made up of people who arrived on the island under
similar circumstances one at a time or in small groups over the past years.
They are living in a village made of some old structures of unknown origin.
The other group appears to be related to the native Americans, they remind
me of the Aztec. The two groups stay to themselves for the most part, but
Sam (the ten year old son the the two doctors) makes friends with a native
boy of about the same age. The overall situations is complicated by the
fact that Sam is a diabetic who must have insulin injections to live. He
has a kit with him with a five day supply, and if they can find their sunken
boat there is another three months supply on it. But they have no idea
what they will do after that to keep him alive.
I found this movie enjoyable and fun to watch.
