This movie is a cross between Fran's
TV series The Nanny and the the 1956 movie The King and I
(staring Yul Brynner and Deborah Kerr) and I enjoyed every minute it.
Due to a misunderstanding Joy (a beauty
school instructor played by Fran) is hired as the science tutor for the
four children of the widowed dictator of an eastern block country. Everyone
in the country (except the Prime Minister) is terrified of the dictator.
This includes his eldest son, and heir to the throne, who would prefer
to be an artist instead of the next dictator, and the dictator's eldest
daughter who is in love with the leader of a rebellion although arrangements
have been made for her to marry a prince when she is older. Though Joy
doesn't know anything about science, her charming, flamboyant manner teaches
her students and their father a thing or two about loosening up. She also
comes in contact with some of the people of the country and has an interesting
effect on them. The dictator is not completely please with the changes
in his children, although he does recognize that they are the happiest
they have ever been. And the Prime Minister does not like the changes in
the dictator, and works to overcome the effects the new tutor has had on
the dictator.
